“Summer afternoon — summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.”

Finches enjoying our sunflowers |
Settling into a small shady corner of our backyard, I placed a floral applique napkin on my lap and reached for a veggie 'turkey' sandwich. College Girl poured a bit of liquid Sugar In The Raw in her iced tea - it dissolves much quicker and easier than granulated sugar, so no clanking spoons!
Embroidered pillowcases adorn our rush seated ladder back chairs and I used a lace tablecloth with teapots on it.
I found the floral napkins when I was getting the pillowcases out of the cabinet, and a thought came to mind. Why save all the pretty things for company or 'special events'? So the scalloped floral napkins were put to good use, and I hung the star quilt on the fence for ambiance!

I bought this cheery quilt from QVC a few years ago. Love the pink, blue and green stripes and checks. |
I've
shared this elegant cup and saucer before, but since we were using iced
tea glasses today I thought I'd share them again - especially since we
were seated next to lovely ferns!
I like being able to look through my hot tea and see the fronds resting at the bottom of my cup.
We used these embroidered bee napkins as coasters under our iced tea glasses.
The weather forecast calls for hotter days ahead, so we enjoyed an outdoor afternoon teatime before the mercury rises.
The last couple of days have been worrisome. Our sweet kitty had to have a dental cleaning and extraction, which meant full anesthesia. Poor thing hasn't been herself. She did manage to eat today, which was a relief.
Update* We awoke to find kitty's eye was beginning to cloud after being dilated from her procedure. Made a quick trip to the vet to find she has an ulcer in her eye. Scary, but she won't loose her vision.

Your fern tea cup is one of my favorites. It is classy, yet unpretentious! lol!

What a cozy and welcoming corner you have created here! Love your embroidered linens, and definitely agree that we should not save these pretties for "special occasions" because WE ARE SPECIAL and deserve to enjoy Beauty any time... Thanks for visiting my blog and for your kind comment. Hope your kitten gets better soon!!!

What a pretty and refreshing little setting. I'm glad your kitty will be OK
ReplyDeleteHi: So sorry about the kitty. I do hope it feels better soon. I love your quilt. I use to teach quilting years ago and have several. They are so beautiful. I don't have the eyes or the back for that anymore, but I do appreciate seeing the beauty of these artful pieces. Have a wonderful week. Hugs, Martha
ReplyDeleteLove your little respite outdoors, it's lovely.
ReplyDeleteI especially adore those whimsical bee napkins, how cute!
I am SO SORRY about your kitty. My kitty had his annual cleaning the other day and had to lose a tooth too- first time, it was scary - but he came out okay.
He was a rescue kitty and one of his eyes had a bad infection when we adopted him so he only has partial vision in that eye. So I kinda know where you are coming from with your worries.
Sending prayers for your kitty, and invoking extra prayers from St. Francis, Patron Saint of Critters.
What a lovely setting! Your quote really caught my eye -- have that in several places in my summer decor and just used it on a project! I ADORE summer -- I mean, here in the Midwest you certainly can't enjoy a lovely tea party outdoors in November!
