Penumbra - from the Latin paene "almost" or "nearly"
and umbra "shadow"- is the region in which only a portion
of the light source is obscured by
the occluding body, which in this case is the Earth.

I stayed outside and watched until the entire
moon was cloaked in shadow. Mars was
visible too!
Did you get a chance to see the lunar eclipse
last night? It was warm and windy here,
around 60 degrees at midnight- perfect for

Liz said the moon was gorgeous that night. She said that she set her alarm, went outside to take a picture and then got back in bed....LOL...I slept right through it!
