More Powdered Sugar, Please!

Happy Pink Saturday! 

 

Recognize this pan? It is for making Ebleskiver.

   Æbleskiver  are traditional Danish pancakes in a distinctive shape of a sphere. Similar in texture to American pancakes crossed with a popover, æbleskiver are solid like a pancake but light and fluffy like a popover. 

 Getting to today's 'pink' I have a photo of the fresh, hot ebleskiver I shared today with Handyman.

We endured braved the heat and walked around the annual Old Towne Orange Street Fair today to sample some of the culinary delights. The cross-streets of Chapman Avenue and Glassell were cordoned off from vehicle traffic and more than a dozen ethnic food booths sold everything from bratwurst to fried rice.
 Our ebleskiver were served with raspberry jam and powdered sugar. As if that wasn't enough for his sweet tooth, Handyman also bought a root beer float.

 I drank water, but have to admit his drink looked inviting!
We looked at the vendor booths outside, then browsed in a few of the antique shops that line the streets.

  From the crowded shops it was clear that others were taking advantage of a little A.C. like us!

The shops were chock full of furniture and dishes~

 There were old records, magazines and books~

 Signs, signs, everywhere a sign~

Another August gone, school has begun and it is now just a blink or two from the holidays. Can you believe it? Have a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend!

Share Your Cup 

Down Home

Today Mr. Handyman and I stopped at Zito's Pizza  for lunch before exploring another antique shop in Old Town Orange. See this post for the last shop we explored.

We shared a fresh spinach and black olive calzone. Luckily I remembered to take a photo before we gobbled it up - it was so delicious! There was fabulous marinara sauce for dipping, too.

Hand in hand we headed next to Peggy and Don Arbenz's Down Home American Country Antiques. 

                      Let's go inside!

Right off the bat you see this handsome canoe standing on end. A quick glance around and you notice that there are not as many knick-knacks as other antique stores; this shop stands apart by offering unique pieces and larger items. There is something for everyone. Any dolly would love this cute yellow house!

I was drawn to what I initially thought was a desk but, when I lifted the hinged lid, I was surprised to see a tin wash bowl fitted into a circular cut out. The piece was actually a vanity. It would look so charming in a bathroom or bedroom! I forgot to snap a photo.

   Tools and blankets, snow shoes and fishing rods -

     Cabinets, crockery, old boots and mirrors -

Oh, this was one of my favorite items! This coal scuttle was so wonderful. I loved the elegant twisted handle on the scoop and scuttle. If College Girl was through with school this would have gone home with us. I remembered our budget, admired the scuttle and kept walking.

I turned around and spied this scene - temptation all around! Love the old stove and Windsor chair.

There's more to see. What's next? Quilts and baskets

     I love old furniture, quilts, toys and dishes -

I also like old teacups, typewriters, and hand stitched samplers. Doesn't this cup have sweet delicate colors?

It has a yellow rim and a pink handle. It would be perfect for sipping a cup of Upton's Keemun while reading a chapter or two on this lounge chair -

   The Red Work and braided rug are charming -

Shaker boxes, large jars and pottery make great storage containers -

I'd love a corner cupboard! A teacup collection would look wonderful inside. For that matter, so would dishes, books, old cameras, linens, or dolls.

A Walk Down Country Roads~

Handyman and I had a date day this past week and headed over to the Orange Circle for breakfast and a bit of window shopping. We are frequent visitors to this quaint and historic area. There are lots of shops and restaurants as well as a small central fountain.  Country Roads Antiques and Gardens is one of our favorite shops. It is loaded to the rafters with beautiful things and there is a garden in the back where you can purchase plants and flowers! I love this cedar lined chest. Isn't it pretty?

            Roses and more roses~

   and even more! This is a porcelain teacup by Roses Regency~ I like the broad opening and elongated loop handle. The touches of blue remind me of the sky.

   Such a handsome chair~

 

A sweet wicker table to sit at and write letters while sipping tea~

         Or would you prefer a desk?

                     

 I have a fondness for dish dressers...ooh, ahh!

Let's step outside and see what is for sale in the back garden...you can barely see the vintage truck for all the plants!
