October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came-
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple
In scarlet looked their best;
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.
Then, in the rustic hollow,
At hide-and-seek they played,
The party closed at sundown,
And everybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly "hands around."
The teacup I am sharing today is from Korea. The bottom marking is labeled 'Haeng Nam, 1942, Snow Bone China'. The leaves by hundreds came-
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple
In scarlet looked their best;
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.
Then, in the rustic hollow,
At hide-and-seek they played,
The party closed at sundown,
And everybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly "hands around."
Notice the deep cobalt blue around the upper edge? It contrasts beautifully with the delicate florals. It has a delicately scalloped lip.
The handle is unique~
The footed pedestal, handle and rim all have gold leaf.
Look at this sweet tea towel~ it has charming stacked teacups with a nest and pinecones adorning them.

Love the poem and the tea towel! I also liked your bathroom organization. Boys are almost as bad. I once fell out of the shower, tripping over 17 bottles of various shower gels, shampoos, conditioners. . . now I have 3. Have a good day.
ReplyDeletewhat beautiful pieces!
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous Korean cup! I haven't seen many, but yours has such lovely coloring, and I do love that handle!
ReplyDeleteThe poem is sweet. Thanks so much for setting the fall mood with it.
Hugs,
Terri
Wonderful post. Enjoyed the poem, the Korean cup and the towel is great! Happy Tea Day!
ReplyDeleteYour teacup is beautiful! And the stack of teacups are in such gorgeous Autumn colors and designs!
ReplyDeleteShawn - Such a lovely cup! I do like that colbalt blue - really brings those florals out! Interesting that it does not have a saucer. Was it separated from an original saucer, or did the style design it as saucerless? I picked up a couple of saucerless pieces last week and wonder if perhaps they were meant to be so - a pedestal and footed - but, perhaps not. Either way - the cup is splendid and the poem was a whimsical wonder! I love the vintage children's book illustration it created in my imagination. Guess you know what I feed that imagination then . . .
ReplyDeleteJoy!

Thanks for the poem and for showing your beautiful Korean cup. It really has lovely rich colors and shape.
ReplyDeleteI love the name of the china "SNOW bone china". The cobalt blue around the rim is my cup of tea, I love the deep blue & gold. Such a pretty tea cup, and the tea towel is too pretty to be used as a towel.
ReplyDeleteLove the Autumn poem, I used to have stacks of Autumn poems, stories, and pictures for my pre-school class and this was one of my favorite autumn poems to read to the little ones.

ReplyDeleteOh the poem it the "Bees Knees" my friend! I just love it and love poetry. It's so charming to have you share it with us. I am saddened that more people don't enjoy poetry. May I share it with my Tasha Tudor group? I do a full moon report with them every month and send either a poem or special quote along. Your cup is darling and I adore the stacked teacups. So glad you have joined us.
ReplyDeleteHiya Shawn! Isn't it WONDERFUL to have some fall weather?!!! You KNOW how much we suffered over the summer, so I find EVERYTHING about AUTUMN a welcome respite! I LOVE the little teacup with the pedestal base....because of it's delicate shape and the cobalt at the top!
