Ch-ch-ch-Chia Seeds!

Are you old enough to remember Chia Pets?

Have you been hearing about Chia Seeds  lately?
Seems like articles about Chia Seeds and their benefits are popping up online, on television, and in magazines. College Girl forwarded an article about Chia Seeds to me and I was delighted to read that these little seeds are nutritional powerhouses. I try to keep my ear to the ground for healthy recipes and snack options. It turns out that Chia Seeds are good sources of fiber, calcium, and Omega fatty acids. They even contain protein! And, because Chia Seeds are so full of anti-oxidants, they stay fresh for two years without preservatives. Therefore, when I was shopping at Trader Joe's last week and spotted a bag of Chia Seeds, I bought them.

Over the past 8 days I have sprinkled them on yogurt, mixed them into juice, and baked them in banana bread.

The nice thing about the Chia Seeds is that they do not alter the flavor of anything you eat or drink them with, so I enjoyed a nice pot of London Cuppa with no problem. Including these little seeds into your diet is an easy way to do something good for yourself. I used one of my sweet Brambly Hedge teacups today at breakfast.

I am entertained by the whimsical artwork of Jill Barklem and like to look for little details, like the ladybug resting on a leaf in the vines. (center right)

Whenever I use my Royal Doulton sets I recall the charming antics of the mice in the Brambly Hedge book series. They have adventures in the Old Oak Palace, go on picnics, and celebrate weddings on summer days at the nearby stream.

On the front of the teacup is a scene of the mice gathering berries in autumn - it's harvest time!

I love the pink band around the top of the teacup with meandering vines and berries. This mouse is wearing a hat, shawl, and apron. See the delicate shape of the cup handle?

Bake up some home-made muffins or cookies with Chia Seeds, then pour yourself a relaxing cup of tea. Nutritious, satisfying, and delicious. Win - win!

  1. First of all, thanks for stopping by Kelley Highway! Wouldn't we have fun crafting together?! Hello! Of course we would break for one (or three!) looooong cups of micupoftea! Indeed! You sure could teach me some techniques that would impact my crafting for a lifetime.

Secondly, there's no Trader Joe's in Manila, but whoa! I like the sound of all the health benefits of chia!

Finally, these whimsical teacups and saucers brought a smile to my face. I'd never read these works, I don't recall, but now I'm a little girl who wants to!

    Put the kettle on!

Personally, there is something about those Chia pets that always creeped me out. I don't even like to look at them. Weird or what?
Love your dishes and plates. Where do you keep all that china goodness?

  4. I have heard of the chia seed being very good for you, but I have not tried them yet myself. Good to know they don't have a flavor. I do remember the chia pets, I had one myself. They were funny!
Your Brambly hedge tea cup is so totally adorable! I just love this series but do not own any myself just yet. I keep looking for them at shops but have not come across one yet. Some day though....
    Your pictures are amazing!
    Hugs,

  5. Oh how I love Brambly Hedge! So cute! I have been hearing about chia seeds as well, but it is a little hard to get over sprouting heads and animals to take them seriously nutritionally! I think you are the first person I have heard from who actually uses them. Haven't seen them for sale around here though. We don't have a Trader Joe's around...it's a 2 1/2 hr drive to one. It was rumored one was coming a year ago, but...that fizzled. Fun post! Thanks for linking to Thursday Tea Things And Talk!

  12. Love your Brambly Hedge designs. Whimsical and sweet!
I had the strangest reaction to chia seeds when I tried them. They made me weepy! I would cry at songs at which I normally didn't, and think, "That's strange." I went off the seeds, and it went away. I went back on a half-dose and it returned. Went off, it disappeared. Went on a quarter-dose (down to 1.5 teaspoons a day now) and it returned. (You can see I was determined to find extra energy! :-) I gave it up and ate spinach instead. :-) Probably it was just me. But please do be aware.
    Blessings,
