Did anyone have pie yesterday to celebrate Pi Day? It had not even occured to me that it was Pi day until I got a fun text message from College Girl..."Happy Pi Day, mom. You know, 3.14!" March 14~
And speaking of fun things, Craftionary has 60 free St. Patrick's Day printables for some last minute crafting and decorating~ I'll bet you find something you'd like to print!
College Girl is taking an Intro to Film class, and this weeks' assigned movie is Psycho....not my first choice of a movie to go with a pot of tea!! But I watched it with her this afternoon while we sipped robust cups of Barry's Tea, an Irish favorite. Perhaps tomorrow afternoon we'll watch The Quiet Man~
I have 2 other Irish dolls to share with you this week. The first one is from the American Girls Doll Collection~
She is a dancer and holds a medal she just won at the Feis~
Feiseanna are generally centered around Irish Dancing competitions, and sometimes include music competitions, art competitions, Irish language classes and soda bread baking competitions. An Irish Dance competition that features only dancing is called a "Feile", or simply "Feis" in the U.S.
College Girl got this doll when she was reading the American Girl book series...that was a few years ago, now!
This doll has Celtic knots embroidered on her dress and cape~
Her hair is fashioned in long tight curls for the competition~
Next is a Marie Osmond doll called Adora Belle. Marie sculpted the face for this doll, which has big eyes and comes in a variety of outfits: this particular one wears a green dress perfect for St. Patrick's Day
She has a crocheted collar, her hair is plaited, and she is vinyl. There are some versions of Adora Belle which are porcelain. Can you just imagine her looking for a four leaf clover, making sure not to step in any puddles...she wants to keep her new ghillies clean!
Under the crochet made by her grandmother, you can see that her bodice laces up~
Dainty, sweet and feminine, this green eyed girl bedecked her hair with wild flowers she found on her shamrock hunt!
Doesn't she have a button nose?
I have a giveaway this week in celebration of St. Patricks Day and Ireland. To enter please tell me if you drink milk and sugar in your tea:

St. Patrick visit:
I've been quietly reading this past week. I love your passion for St. Patrick's Day and the fun details you share.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit, I've been increasing the frequency with which I drink tea and often remember a statement from one of your older blogs as I pour the water over the bag. Maybe someday this year I'll try loose.
Very sweet dolls!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking maybe if I were watching "psycho" I might want some of your 'calming' tea to drink!
About the tea, I don't like sugar or milk in my tea-just plain.
Have a great weekend!
I love your blog...thanks for sharing. I love tons of milk and sugar with my tea..lol. My sisters, mom and I all go to tea at the St James Tearoom here in Albuquerque every year...I love all the different kinds of teas!
ReplyDeleteLove those adorable dolls!
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patrick's Day!
Just received a new tea delivery yesterday, I'm in tea heaven! No milk, little sugar!

ReplyDeleteOh your dolls look so sweet! What a fun tie to spend with College girl! I miss that when my kids were younger. I take my tea without sugar nor milk....Christine
ReplyDeletePi Day!! I used to be on top of Pi Day..and I totally forget this year...LOL. Thank goodness for Collage I would of really forgotten! I love the dolls. Before my first son was born, I was picking out American Girl dolls (Samantha and Molly). Boys are not into American girl dolls...boo hoo.
ReplyDelete(just between the two of us...I take soy milk and sugar in my tea). I have been coffee and diet cherry pepsi free since Jan (oh my..lol). Have a fabulous weekend Shawn! Thanks for all the info. Hugs!!
Shawn - I just don't even know what Pi is - even though I hear it celebrated each year. Never had it in school - barely got through Algebra and took over the max in language classes. Nobody celebrated Pi Day in the '70's!
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful dolls! The first gal with the hat is a treasure! Such lovely "green" posts at your place this week! And - a great give-away - love the "Keep Calm and Have a Cup of Tea"! DO BE SURE TO ENTER ME!
So glad you were blessed by my St. Patrick's Day post. I love that era, too - studying Celtic history and Christianity is so fascinating to me. They had their besetting sins, but they also had a real connection to the Lord as Creator and the poetry and story of the age is stirring. I also love how the Celts gave women equal roles in society and much moreso after the Gospel. Such a radical change from the Roman way - and much more Biblically sound.
For some great cozy mysteries set in Ireland at the time, you might enjoy the Sister Fidelma Mysteries by Peter Tremayne - his pen name - he's a history professor so lots of period detail.
Joy!
Kathy
Pshyco,... not my choice of film either. But I've been on the set of Pshyco (and some other) and it was so much fun to see, They can make so many different shots on just a small area. I was amazed by that!
ReplyDeleteHere in The Netherlands we don't do anything with St. Patrick's Day. I am already dressing up the house with little fun stuff for eastern.
Love from The Netherlands,
Leintje*
Oooo Gorgeous dolls and Quiet Man is one of My all time favorites
ReplyDeletePlease throw my name in the hat. I would love to try this tea. It would be with a bit of milk...that's it. The dolls are so cute. They make me think of my grand-daughter. Deb
ReplyDeleteI love the tea box and would LOVE to win. No milk for me...I'm allergic!
ReplyDeleteRuth
I do love your doll collection! I collect dolls, too, but I have mine packed away in my closet. Such a terrible place to have them....Some day I hope to be able to display them.
ReplyDeleteI would like to enter your giveaway. I don't drink milk in my tea and most of the time I don't use sugar either. I just love the taste of great tea. I do love your tea box!!
Hugs,
Brenda
Growing up my grandmother always drank tea and that was our little thing when I would go over for sleepovers. Every morning I would have toast with butter and preserves and then my cup of tea. She always put TONS of lemon in it and to this day I can not have it without alot of lemon. I really haven't thought about this for awhile and I'm glad I did :) I only have one tea cup and it was my grandmothers. As her health started to go and I moved out on my own in this big world, she gave it to me to keep with me. I have it displayed proudly in my kitchen and it doesn't matter how many times I look at it, I always feel like I'm 8 again sitting with her :) so long story short, LOL, I take mine with no milk, tons of lemon and 1 sugar :D
