Now in the oak the sap of life is welling,
Tho' to the bough the rusty leafage clings;
Now on the elm the misty buds are swelling,
See how the pine-wood grows alive with wings;

Rosemary abuzz with bees |
Blue-jays fluttering, yodeling and crying,
Meadow-larks sailing low above the faded grass,
Red-birds whistling clear, silent robins flying,--
Who has waked the birds up? What has come to pass?

Hydrangea covered in buds |
Now on the plum the snowy bloom is sifted,
Now on the peach the glory of the rose,
Over the hills a tender haze is drifted,
Full to the brim the yellow river flows.
Dark cypress boughs with vivid jewels glisten,
Greener than emeralds shining in the sun.
Who has wrought the magic? Listen, sweetheart, listen!
The mocking-bird is singing Spring has begun.

There is a lot to be said for the poets of old. They sure knew how to paint the pictures in our head. Here we have the 'Chickadee's' back to sing their spring songs. Still quite a pile of snow where I live. Have a terrific Sunday Shawn.
ReplyDeleteOh lucky you with Narcissus in the garden already! We still have a lot of snow and cold, but at least the sun have showed up again this weekend so there is hope :)Lovley and warming pics from you. Katta
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures and. Beautiful verse! Thanks. I noticed, when I was out in the garden yesterday, that there are a lot of plants budding.....it won't be long! Meanwhile my neighbours banks are full of snowdrops!
ReplyDeleteLife awakening....great!

How lovely to visit your blog and see springflowers already. Here in Sweden it´s really snowy and cold right now. But we know that below all that snow tiny seeds are waiting. Thanks so much for visiting our blog.

Very pretty. My yellow and purple crocus are in bloom. Very cold though today! Still think we'll have an early spring.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Shawn and I love the poetry. Still buried in snow here. Although I have seen a bit of the greens of my Daffodils poking through. Can't wait!
ReplyDeletehugs,

I have tons of daffodils and it's one of my favorite spring flowers. Your photos make me long to see my blooms sooner than I will. Still snow and cold here in northern Indiana with more snow coming tomorrow. My dafs got a false start in January when we had some 50 degree temps, but fortunately, they didn't get very far.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Found you on Clever Chicks and would love to have you join The HomeAcre Hop on Thursdays at:
