December blooms~

I went into the backyard today to fill the birdbath with water. Several times a day a variety of large and small birds stop to drink and bathe. It is so cute to see two or three small yellow birds splashing away together! Meanwhile, a Robin waits in the tree for his turn.

I took my camera with me because I thought I might find a lovely Camellia bloom, and I did. The bushes are loaded with buds.

When these open they are full and ruffly. I like to bring them into the house and float them in small bowls.

We also have deeper pink Camellias blooming.

It is so nice to have something blooming when everything else is bare in the garden. I look forward to seeing these flowers each December~ Look what else is bobbing their sweet heads!

My friend, who lives in Mississippi, gave me Paperwhite bulbs years ago and I planted them. I think of her every time I see them.  Along with our feathered friends, we enjoy regular visits from a Desert Cottontail who loves to nibble on carrots.

We also have seven lemons on our dwarf Meyer Lemon tree....poor thing is a bit light on leaves due to the rough Santa Ana winds we recently endured, but the lemons withstood the gale.

What is blooming in your yard?
