Friday's Child
I am sharing a special cup this week that I bought soon after College Girl was born! It is a charming beaker-style porcelain cup with images of children and animals on it. You guessed it...our sweet girl was born on a Friday~
The cup is decorated on the front and back with a pastoral setting.
I found this Birthday Mug by Royal Worcester in a gift shop that carried children's clothing.
There are Foxgloves, Sunflowers and Hollyhock growing near the door - some of my favorites - and two friendly cats sharing the yard with ducks and geese.
The rim has gold plating~
Here is my second crop of Sunflowers! I originally planted two packets of seed around the yard in early May anticipating cheery yellow blooms by August. To my chagrin, slugs devoured every last seedling. Unwilling to admit defeat, I bought a long portable planter and more sunflower seed. I move the planter once a day so it gets the most sun possible. I am looking forward to seeing the golden flowers soon since our summer weather lasts until mid October.
Thinking of all the families and emergency personnel affected by the horrendous event in Colorado~ Lifting them in prayer!

Hi Shawn, I have always loved that poem. The cup is so precious. Those flowers are among my favorites also. You will have beautiful sunflowers soon. I kind of wish mine hadn't bloomed so early. I love them for Fall and it would have been so fun to stick a scarecrow out amongst them. Afraid they'll be long gone by then. The incident in Colorado breaks my heart. So hard to understand how anyone can do such a thing.

ReplyDeleteThis is lovely! And I absolutely love the cup!!! Thanks for sharing it!!
ReplyDeleteI love this poem. My mother embroidered a set of tea towels with this poem ... one for each day. Sweet memories. And sweet memories for you and a wonderful way to celebrate your daughter. Love this cup!! Happy Tea Day!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet a post! I love the cup you bought when your daughter was born. I have not seen this series before, but think I have seen a series similar in Canada. Yours has delightful artwork.

Adorable teacups! I have a few volunteer sunflowers growing in the garden :)
ReplyDeleteOh Shawn! I love your mug! Sue Scullard was a favorite designer of ours. She designed from 1995 to 2003 for Dunoon and we had her wonderful English country cottage mugs. Then they discontinued them. Rats!!!! Thanks so much for sharing that wonderful design. How special a momento of your daughter's birth! Thanks for linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

Dearest Shawn,
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasured keepsake! Your College Girl must love it! Just think...One day you may be able to bring it out for a precious grandchild. I have always loved the poem about the day a little one is born. I had a Tuesday's child who has lived his life true to the grace mentioned. My Wednesday's child, strangely, has been my high maintenance, challenging child.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments and visits to my blog. I have enjoyed your friendship so much!
I hope you have a wonderful day!

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little mug. The poem is such a pretty one too. I just love the little scene on the cup! It just makes you want to smile. My prayers are with those affected by the senseless shooting as well.
