Mickle Rare Perfume~

"And lavender, whose spikes of azure bloom
shall be, ere-while, in arid bundles bound
to lurk admist the labours of her loom,
and crown her kerchiefs with mickle rare perfume."
William Shenstone The School Mistress 1742

I keep a dictionary at hand whenever I'm reading. I am fascinated by words and love to expand my vocabulary. I remember as a child asking my mother what a particular word meant and she usually told me to 'look it up'. This probably stemmed from the fact that she didn't want to explain the definition to me, but it actually engendered a fondness for the dictionary!

mickle [ˈmɪkəl],
adj~great or abundant
adv~much; greatly
n1. a great amount

I contemplate the 'mickle rare perfume' of the lavender as I watch the bees from my comfy bench in the sunshine. My tea of choice today is Lyons loose Gold Blend, which a friend from Ireland sent to me. On the Lyons website it states, "Tea is the age-old solution to every dilemma, and we Irish just can't get enough of it! Out of a population of just over 4 million people, three million of us drink tea, giving us one of the highest consumption levels of tea in the world! As a nation we drink up to five cups each a day." Sounds like my kind of place!

I think this cup is perfect for my morning with the lavender, don't you?

This cup is Sheltonian Bone China from Staffordshire, England.

  2. I love your teacup! Sequim is a large lavender producing area...we have 30 lavender farms in a 10 mile radius and a big lavender festival coming up on the 20th. Great tea quotes! I haven't had Lyons tea except in a Lyons Corner House in London. Thanks for sharing your lazy summer lavender tea and linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

  10. I have just discovered your blog from linking over from a comment you left on my blog, and I thank you for visiting and leaving a very nice comment. I am so glad to have found your blog, I'm really enjoying it. I also love words. I love to tell stories, and when I was young I dabbled in writing poetry.
Since you are a tea lover, I am hoping that maybe you can help me learn to like tea. I drink about 3 or 4 cans of diet coke daily and I know that it is horrible for me. I have tried green tea, but didn't care for it. I do like coffee but was hoping to learn to like tea. I always hear people say they love sweet tea and iced tea, but so far I have not acquired a taste for it. Perhaps you can help me find some healthier alternative to this horrible pop I love so much. I love sweet things, and also love cinnamon and spice flavors. Any suggestions? So nice to meet you, I'm your newest follower!
